I've been working on a mini banjo for almost a year. It's been slow going. Here are a few construction photos taken during the building. The last photo of the lady guitar player will be the inlay on the peg head. I cut out 3 different sizes of the lady inlay before I got it right!

Hi Marvin, As usual, your work is par excellence!  Someone's gonna be a really lucky mini-banjo recipient.

As a woodcarving who has never tried inlays, the art fascinates me. And this piece is absolutely fascinating!

It's really beautiful, as your banjos always are. I can't imagine how much time it took to do the fretboard inlay, and the guitar player on the peghead too.

Wonderful work Marvin. That fretboard inlay is one of the prettiest I've ever seen.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. This has one has been a challenge so far, and a lot more to go before it's finished!

John, the rim is made from 6" aluminum pipe that I turned on a lathe.

Merry Christmas to my BHO friends!

Thanks Glenn. Yeah, from Russ' videos, he looks like he is having a ball with it! I can't believe that his "Shuckin' the Corn" video has already gotten 29, 000 views in 15 days!

I tack glued the inlays to the peg head surface, scribed around them with an Exacto knife, removed them, chalked the lines, routed the space, and now have them glued in.

Looking good! Out of curiosity, what tuning and string sets do you use on your mini banjos?

They are tuned to open G, but one octave higher. I use light gauge strings.

I love that moment of truth when the inlay gets sanded flush. Marvin, your work is always impeccable. And you attack the difficult stuff fearlessly. Your little banjos  will be admired and treasured long after we've all bitten the dust. That fact alone makes the effort time well spent.
