I would question the statement that Lamar Grier played with Mike Seeger before the days of the New Lost City Ramblers, or perhaps I am mis-reading something.

Here’s an article that talks about Mike Seeger’s collaboration with Lamar Grier in 1954.

Thanks for that but the recording of the Strange Creek Singers which included Lamar Grier was made around 1972. I bought the album at the time.

The New Lost City Ramblers were formed in 1958. Fourteen years earlier.

Hence my query

wadr, the article doesn’t say he collaborated with Lamar in 1954, but rather that he met Hazel then and (subsequently) much later formed the Strange Creek Singers which included Lamar.
