Where is the good stuff? A bunch of Silver Bell 1’s, upgraded candy Apple banjos, and a bunch of parts banjos with people playing pretend about their origins.

Why is nothing good for sale right now?

There's all sorts of good stuff in the classified, evidently, just not what you are looking to purchase. Remember: one person's junk is another person's treasure.

BHO is largely built around user contributions.

Personally, I think Gibsons, Stellings etc. are great banjos to have listed here.

If you think there should be better stuff listed, you could list some.

Perhaps everyone who has original Bacon Silver Bell banjos (and not fake or upgraded) have decided to keep them as the prices are going down as Baby Boomers continue to downsize or pass?

Maybe they are hoping that there will be another Shakey's Pizza/ Your Father's Mustache fad that will eventually raise prices?

There is always some ebb and flow to items that are for sale. Sometimes nothing shows up, then suddenly there will be more items than a person can count, let alone afford.

It's also possible that what appeals to you might be trelatively rare, and that what doesn't appeal to you could still be of high quality but not quite what you are looking for.

I also think many sellers will be outraged by your claims that sellers are "pretending" about the origins of their pieces. You should be more careful about how you word your complaints, and be more patient while waiting for what you want.

Most sellers on the Hangout are seasoned veterans of knowing what is junk and what isn't, and I doubt you'd find a truly "junk" banjo for sale here. Only the very worst of the import banjos might qualify as junk --banjos which look like banjos but don't function in the intended way-- and the majority of sellers here, deal in anything but junk. I seriously doubt a seller in their right mind would list something which they knew was worthless.

For better or worse, many more 5-string players than 4-string players haunt BHO. So most of the good banjos in the Classifieds are 5-stringers, while you seem to be considering 4-stringers. If your reference is to the 4-string market at large, I have no ideas not posted above.

I have been very careful about how I've worded my complaints and quite frankly, I hope that they are outraged because the banjo world is continuously fooled and flooded by obvious fakes made out to be real by those with 'prominent' names who eventually sell them for 3-5x their value.

Dont get me started on some of the obvious fakes that have passed through a certain museum in OKC that are passed off as original.

It's just people who cant find an original who had a replica made, tell their family it's original, and then the family sells it as such, and then boom, it becomes make-believe land with banjos that have no prominence.

Everytime I see a 'mint condition' Ne Plus Ultra, I roll my eyes and hold onto my wallet because though I may be young, I'm not stupid.

If folks stopped playing pretend and living in Make-Believe land with Mr. Rogers, I wouldnt be making a post like this.

A lot of people think it, but they wont say it because they dont want the '4 string banjo world' to be upset with them. I could care less, it's a dying world and most of my heroes who are the real stars of the 4 string banjo dont frequent this forum, nor attend any of the conventions anymore due to this and many other reasons.

Ever wonder why you dont see Lee Floyd or Ben Johnson around these forums?

I dont.

You have a right to your opinion, but if you don't like the forum(s) the posts or the people, why do you stay and post negatively? Isn't there somewhere else where you might be happy?

I do like the posts and the majority of the people.

It’s only a few crooks who grind my gears.

Thanks for trying to save us all Billy Ray.

No one actually gives two squats what you think about BHO ads, posts, or posters.

My guess is you're more concerned about competition, since you sell here.

Your "no returns" policy (on your current ad) means you don't stand by your claims, or your merchandise.

"Quite frankly," I see no care whatsoever in your comments' wording on this particular thread.

While it may be true that there are fakes and people making false claims, I think you are overreacting and blaming everyone, including the legitimate sellers, for a few rotten Ebay and Craigslist apples.

Maybe you are young, and maybe you are not stupid, but both youth and stupidity can be contributing factors to rudeness. I hope it's only the former and a little more age/experience teaches you some tact.

I have tact.

I said what I said because I meant what I said and I want the right parties to see it in the way that I said it.

My complaints are not towards Craigslist or eBay listings.

My complaints are to 'dealers' and 'trusted sources' on their make believe banjos that they sell.

I do appreciate your concern, but I have chosen my words carefully.

In fact, I don't think I'm being abrasive enough.

First off,

Thanks for your service to our country.

Second, Ok Boomer.

Jack, I think you could definitely be more abrasive (not that it would accomplish anything!) but it’s clear that you’ve been careful not to go on an all-out bashing festival and have been courteous enough not to use asterisks to express your disgust.

I’ll add, however, that any abrasiveness (member-to-member or member-to-moderator), intentional or not, has absolutely no place on the Hangout.

Remember; everyone can see the replies anyone posts, and it’s much safer to not post (regardless even if you’re itching to do it) a reply that will “show that so-and-so who he’s talking to!”

If members want to “slug it out,” they can do it via email, or the Hangout gets a bad rap very quickly.

I appreciate your email about this. Always appreciate a kind word.

However, Jim is an old fool that the world has forgotten about, I'm not worried about him. He has no power, just a keyboard.

Nice try at redirecting the conversation away from yourself...that was precious.

Unfortunately, another fail...even with help from bluegrassbanjopicker in the peanut gallery.

Hope he asked his Dad first.

To be clear, not too old, or too foolish, to recognize a troll and a poser when I see one.

Your post above is just another example.

You might try posting your whining rants on reddit, and/or slashdot.

You will not be missed here.

Okay, Jack and Jim, take your insults off the Hangout or get a time out to cool off. And Jim, let's watch our language. Starred out curse words are still not wanted or needed on the Hangout.

I used to do a lot of flamethrowing on blogs and other social media, but I've learned to just NOT. Why sit and be angry? It doesn't satisfy. And 9 times out of 10 I'd follow up with something that is even worse, and then I'm REALLY angry, but mostly at myself. Go do something else instead. Go walk the dog. Go play your banjo. The wife probably has a "honey-do" list for you a mile long. Go work on that instead of shouting at the internet.

This is a public forum. The Hangout was not made by an individual who believes in “anything goes;” if it was, then I suppose we’d even have adult material here, which is strictly prohibited. The Hangout’s better half won’t stand for it.

The whole thread has become a shameful disgrace in short order.
