This is the first year that I or my wife can recall where we didn't see/hear network TV or radio mention* of the Halifax Explosion.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halifax_Explosion

* = However, it did get a very brief mention a few weeks back in the bit about  the NS Christmas tree to Boston.   https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/boston-christmas-tree-cut-trenton-1.5358138

I only know about it every year because of the tree sent to Boston. I think once events pass the hundred year mark they get less notice. No one alive anymore to remember the event.

We almost never hear about the Boston Molasses flood anymore either.

I don't recall having heard about the molasses flood until a few year ago .... I suspect the internet plays a role.  Maybe it's simple economics... the supply side outstripping the demand side?     .... or that there's no hard-and-fast rule re. what qualifies as "news" ?

My best friend's father told us about the molasses flood when I was a kid. Ironically, he ran a pastry shop.

As well, an uncle of mine was president of a molasses company. I didn't learn of the molasses flood from him, though.)
