Tuned in leaving work and no bluegrass, but a Dolly Parton channel. Now I love Dolly and she can certainly sing bluegrass if she wants, but it’s not what I expect on Bluegrass Junction. Got home and checked the web site and it’s all Dolly, all week mostly. Anybody know what’s going on? It’s the only traditional music station on SiriusXM but there are plenty of country stations. Is SiriusXM dropping bluegrass?

I wondered the same thing... What gives?

Google “Heartstrings Radio Takes Over Bluegrass Junction” - the story is there. It’s temporary but I’m not happy about it either.

Thanks, but since I mostly listen in my car, I guess I'm out of luck. SiriusXM seems to have a lot of space elsewhere for specialty programming, it's a shame they took off the only bluegrass channel.

It disappeared from my Dish TV listing around 6 months ago.
Nothing close to bluegrass on there, now.

It only lasts 2 weeks, from the 16th to the 30th and then our bluegrass music will be back on. So.... enjoy Dolly for the time being.

Bluegrass Junction is still on channel 62, but has been taken over by Dolly Parton songs. I read an article about it, but don't remember why.

Last year around Christmas they did the same thing: took off the bluegrass music and put on Christmas music.

Just relax, listen to Dolly or, if you don't care for her, find another channel with something you can tolerate for 2 weeks.

I am sure Dolly will acquire many new fans thanks to the decision to suspend Bluegrass Junction on Sirius in order to promote her upcoming Netflix show.

Dolly's okay, but I'd rather be able to listen to what I'm paying for rather than what Sirius decides I should hear.

Exactly, I like Dolly and I think she is a legendary talent; but, I like to listen to bluegrass on my daily commute. Having the bluegrass channel on the internet does me no good. I'll find other things to listen to, and since the alternative is AM/FM or my iPhone, I guess I'll stick around for now. But I still think it's shortsighted by SiriusXM and if they keep it up, I'll save the fees and pony up for unlimited music on Amazon and do my own programming. First world problem and I'm really not complaining too much, I was just wondering what was going on.

They don't have enough garbage (non-)Country stations they could have done this with? They had to replace the ONE bluegrass station?

Oh well. The Bluegrass Junction has become so full of random acoustic barely or not even Bluegrass music that gets dumped there through much of the day that I mostly just stopped listening to it. So I didn't notice. The odds are 3 times out of 4 when I turn it on I don't like what I hear anyway. Although I think they'd at least been giving PRB a push lately, now that's some Bluegrass!

They’ve been slowly slipping in uptown country for a couple years now more and more….to the point I haven’t even bothered to put it on anymore. I (we probably all should let them know how we feel). Maybe they’ll get it back together. I used to use it as my live band practice. I’d put it on and sit back on my bed and pick along with all that great banjo bluegrass. Then as they started slipping in the bad country stuff….I found myself falling asleep waiting for a tune to pop up…..finally gave up.
Bluegrass does have its ebb and flow. I just figured it was in the ebb mode about now hoping it will come back. Local music stores don’t even carry good banjos anymore. A neighbor’s mom asked me about 6 months ago when she found I played banjo a little that her son wanted to learn. I said send him around and I’d show him some things to get him going. Never heard back then one day while talking to his old man , found the young man was into rock music and he had got a new electric guitar for Xmas ….oh well.

I've always considered bluegrass to be more something played at home and with friends than a business. All those times they used a banjo in the intro to I think it was Nashville on the Road or the Grand Ol' Opry ca. 1977.Banjo in the background but hardly ever presented on stage.
It's always the first thing to go ...kinda like the "red topped" crew of the original Starship Enterprise.

At this point, less than one week in for Dolly's program, I'm sick and tired of hearing the same songs and talk over and over. I guess they're going to repeat the same segments ad nauseum for 2 weeks. Dolly is fast becoming my least like singer.

You could change the station . . .

Considering Ms. Parton has written over 1000 songs and recorded hundreds of them, it's too bad they don't at least delve deeper into her catalog. But that would take somebody a couple of days work and cut into Sirius's budget. Not that it would hurt them much though. The rate they pay performers and writers for royalties is next to nothing. This is one of the reasons a lot of pros are quitting the music business.

It wouldn't hurt if more people bought CD's. Then you have some choice in what you listen to, and a few cents from the CD purchase might make its way to the artist.

And no, I don't subscribe.

I'm sure Dolly's management team have metrics that validate the processes they're implementing to maximize the monetization of her new Netflix show.

Uh, I mean, why heck, honeybunch, she ain't nothin' but a li'l ol' downhome gal, yup yup.

Glad I didn't pony up the 256$ they were trying to get out of of me for a year's subscription.
I called XM and talked to Bob in Mombay ( India, that is) and told him would pay 6$ a month just for the BGJ but they wouldn't go for it.
I believe XM is getting nervous about losing customers to Spotify and now they are willing to negotiate judging from my junkmail from them.
Times, they are a changin'...

When I signed up years ago, you paid $500 for the radio to install in your vehicle yourself and your subscription lasted until your radio died...and that was it. My radio made it about 8 or 10 years. Well...they talked me into the $200 a year subscription afterwards, and with as crummy as Sirius became, I finally told them to cancel my subscription. What’s funny is that the person I was talking with about cancelling immediately upon my request said, “Oh...$200 is too much...how about $100 then? Would that keep you as our customer?” So....it was that easy to knock off $100? I said thanks but no thanks. What a rip off.

I have never paid more than about $6 a month for SiriusXM. I just call in and ask if there's a special deal and if they say no, I tell them to disconnect my service. That always takes me to a customer service rep who has a good deal to keep me. I just paid $47 for 6 months. Maybe you just didn't talk to the right people??

Bob, there aren't any other stations I want to listen to. The alleged country music stations aren't the kind of country music I want to listen to and I definitely don't want the hip hop, pop, etc., so I'm stuck with just turning off the radio while in the car. Wonder if they'd give me a refund for the 2 weeks I didn't listen? (doubt it)

My new car has Bluetooth, so I can play my iTunes from my iPad. Better selections than a lot of Bluegrass Junction.

My guess is that bluegrass is such a niche music that this a trial to see if there might be more corporate profits by playing something else.

I would not have it or listen to it for free. I have listened a little while riding with others. There is j.ust something impersonal and unappealing to suit ny taste. This music should be presenter over the air by a live deejay with some knowledge.
