I'd like to start a thread for people to share their favourite clawhammer banjo performances on youtube. I'm sure there are many gems I haven't seen and think this could be a fun way to learn about new players. I'll begin with my top 3 :

1. Steve Baughman
m.youtube.com/watch?v=-3Y7F5JJRcM

2. Noah Cline
m.youtube.com/watch?v=6MZlmqH-niY

3. Nathan Bowles

John posted--"another by the same banjoist, I believe he is named Carl Martin--"  Below is a link to his obituary thread.

He went by "Bill" here, and is truly missed.

Bill, thanks for the link. I came across the rye whisky track by accident some years ago and I was immediately transported to a a strange, moving and intriguing place. I find his sparse and measured style along with his voice which is, like his playing, so understated, real still waters running deep, so beautiful and moving, it does that thing deep within my psyche that only music and poetry do and cannot be explained. And after hearing it I knew I had to get a 5 string, although I have ended up playing mostly 2 finger style. My thoughts and condolences to his family and friends.

This rendition of 'Tater Patch w/ a 6 string banjo by Hunter Robertson! Would love to get a banjo like this one day, the extra string adds a great depth. Unsure if they're here on the Hangout

Walt Koken Grey Eagle   Bill Rogers suggested Walt Koken and I thought that I would link to one of my favorites of his.  This video is him teaching Grey Eagle and the bounce and swing that he brings to this tune is unmatched.

Bob Thornburg Gospel Plow

And here we see that speed and complexity have nothing to do with rhythm and groove.  I love Bob's playing.
