Hi Everyone,

Bobby Thompson is one of my favorite non-Scruggs-style banjo players, and I love his melodic style.

Does anyone have any Bobby Thompson tabs (of either songs or licks/rolls)?

I know that his 'Hee Haw' theme is available, and I have that tab (pretty amazing combination of fast-moving melodic & Scruggs combination).

Thank you very much.

There are six of Bobby's tabs in Tony Trischka's wonderful Master Collection of Fiddle Tunes published by Mel Bay. There are also three in Trischka's Melodic Banjo published many years ago by Oak Publications (although one is a repeat of Bobby's Katy Hill). If you're a fan of melodic playing, both books are great resources, the Thompson material aside. Enjoy!

There are tabs of Thompson’s Hee Haw theme, Lady Madonna, etc in BNL issues around the year 2000 along with an interview of Bobby in the same issue(s).

I didn’t know there were tabs in Trischka’s Fiddle time book. I’ll have to revisit that. Thanks

Thank you Foote , chuckv97 and banjosef ...

Those are very good suggestions...

I think I need to buy the 'Masters of the 5 String Banjo' book from Pete's website.

Bobby Thompson was such an innovator and under-heralded genius.

Just to be clear, Masters of the 5 string banjo by Wernick and Trischka is different from Trischka's Master Collection of Fiddle Tunes. Although the first book is "the Bible" and has chapters on all the greats, it does not include a chapter on Bobby Thompson. The Fiddle Tunes book does. (If you want a encyclopedic volume on everything banjo, including up close photos of each players picks and how the form them to their fingers, definitely get this book too.)

Thank you, Lloyd.

I have Trischka's Fiddle tune book on kindle (and ebook), but I'd like to get a hard copy of that as well.
