Hi Everyone,

I just bought and received a Black Diamond Strings box with string packets in it.

Can someone help me understand how old the box and strings are?

I am guessing 1960s or 1970s.

Does anyone recognize the box or string packages?

Thank you for your help identifying them.

Sorta looks like the 'singles' sort of boxes I'd see when I was about 10 at the mom and pop music stores when I needed a string. That was pretty much all I played on a tenor guitar I started on and for quite a while before E. Ball became a thing. Really cool. I'd guess 60's as well but that's a guess it looks reminiscent of the boxes I'd see in the 60's.

It looks like a mixture of individual packages of different ages inside the box. The Black Diamond set includes a ZIP code, so it's post 1966 or so. The orange Gibson package does not have a ZIP code, so is pre-1966 or so. That's the easiest watershed date to determine.

The large box is quite cool.

Thank you RevD and The Old Timer ...

That's very helpful, Dick, your suggestion of paying attention to the zip code.

So, it looks like the box of from the late 1960 to early 1970s.

Yes, I was surprised that the box was in such good shape.

I'd love to find some old Gibson string boxes (I know they have been available to purchase on rare occasions.

I have a (empty) box like that. It was given to me at a music store that was getting rid of "old junk" in the early 80s when the previous owner had passed. I was guessing 1950s or 60s.
Would love to know more if you find anything about it.

Hey Rick...

What a nice gift that you received (one man's "junk" is another's treasure, as they say).

I was just researching, and the first zip codes were introduced in 1963 ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZIP_Code ), so... It is safe to say that the Black Diamond box was made from 1963+

Yes, I also would love to hear more (if anyone has any more information on them).
