Longtime lurker, first time poster. I'm going tmm to check out a craigslist ad for a 70's era Ibanez Artist. The price is right and I imagine I'll be walking away with it no matter what, but I tried to do some research and haven't found any Ibanez's with this inlay pattern (shield and eagles, i guess you'd call it?). Do any of you fine folks have any info about this model?

Have you checked the Ibenez site here,  catalogs  to see if your banjo is there?

Great Idea! Unfortunately, still no luck on an ID. Always fun to look through instrument catalogs, though.

Wow, I have never seen that one before. Maybe Mike Stanger here can shed some light on this.

I believe it could some iteration of a Mountaineer.....

See this discussion from a couple weeks ago...and look at the pictures on Mike Stanger's BHO homepage.

That's a '76 Bicentennial Model. Mike Stanger has one with a picture on his home page.

Solved! It is the Bicentennial model. And boy is it a beauty! Well loved, heavily played, but still has a lot of life left. I'm a clawhammer guy, but I think i'll be hanging on to this one.
