Looking for a wrench for the old Gretsch top tension banjos. I need to know the size if I can't find one. I have a Ludwig square "T" wrench but I not sure it is the same size as I don't have the banjo, it's a friends.

Perhaps your friend could push a plug of modeling clay over the square (?) end, and then take the clay to a machinist with calipers to get a measurement. Or take the banjo if he has a good case for it to protect it in the car.

Next time you visit your friend, take your Ludwig wrench along and see if it fits his Gretsch.

I have doubts that it will, however, in which case you should try contacting John Hoft, Hangout name Beezaboy. He's very knowledgeable about Gretsch banjos, and may be able to help you.

Tommy, take one of the screws out  and go to a clock shop, if there is one left. I have a few clock keys and some are metric.

Yes, clock key may work but I don't have the banjo in hand yet.
Thanks
