My lifetime custom Huber VRB-G will be completed soon, and I will be needing a banjo strap. My 2 goodtimes have leather Deering straps. I love my Deering straps, but they use Chicago bolts to secure them & I wouldn’t want my Huber getting scratched. I would welcome the opinions of my fellow banjo enthusiasts on a good leather, comfortable, banjo strap that won’t scratch or damage my banjo.

Huber makes a nice strap. You could have Steve attach it so it comes already on the banjo.

I second the Huber suggestion. Also, I've used the Chicago connectors and have never had a problem with scratching.

I am a fan of Lakota straps. They use Chicago screws as well, but are not anywhere near the banjo - on the main/wide part of the strap - unless you're really careless. There is a 2" one in the classifieds right now, at a really nice price (if I hadn't just bought one, I'd buy it).   Here is a link to a video on installation, if you are concerned about the placement of the screws Lakota cradle strap

Instead of using Chicago screws, I use leather boot laces. I push a loop through the hole where the screw is supposed to go, then bring the lace ends around and through the loop. Then I tie a knot. No screw involved.

I recently bought a Levy's cradle strap in suede from a Wisconsin music store that sells on eBay. $28 and change shipped. Good strap, but I'm not sure I like grippy suede on my shoulder. My other straps are smooth.

I agree the Lakota straps look great.  If you can wait a few months, Lakota always has a Black Friday-Cyber Monday sale.  $10 off all weekend.

Edited to add: Seller was Cream City Music, in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Their usual price for a Levy's cradle strap is $33. Still good.

I also prefer the Huber strap, or a good copy. But Huber has really figured it out as far as thickness/width/length. And his price is most reasonable.

Sully straps - he uses old horse leather and sews on loops to your specs - that banjo deserves an awesome vintage strap

I have both the Sully custom strap and also the Huber on my vrb-g. Can’t go wrong with either one.

I ordered a Lakota brown cradle strap. Thanks for all of your opinions.
