Hello fellow banjer freaks. I mostly lurk and don't post but I'm trying to research a banjo my wife got me as a wedding gift 40 years ago. It is an archtop that has been refurbished by Kyle K. Smith. It's an arch top that was built in the early to mid 70's and said to have a Bill Blaylock archtop tone ring. I don't know if this is the same Blaylock who had made flathead rings for Sonny Osborne's Chief (among others). I am told that the Bill Blaylock who cast this had a place in Marietta GA and only cast 100 of these.
As part of the refurbishment, Kyle sent the tone ring to Tony Pass who hand-fit a thin-skirt block, old wood rim to it. I'm just trying to find out anything I can about this tone ring. I'd appreciate any info that anybody can supply. Thanks!!!!
Bill Blaylock in Marietta sold banjo parts and a self-authored banjo instruction course. I don't know if he's the same Bill Blaylock making tone rings today. Write to him and ask.
