This banjo, tagged by the Carl Fischer shop in NYC, is missing pearl fingerboard covers above the 12th fret, also missing an inlay at the bottom of the fingerboard. It is similar to Wilkes banjos seen at Bill Distler's website and at the Gruhn website, but there are enough differences between this one and the two Wilkes banjos that I think this may be a copy, possibly made by the Buckbee shop under R&L ownership. .
Long story short..... the heel area shows "ghost" inlay/glue markings that suggest the heel had a boxed figure similar to the Wilkes examples. Has anyone seen a banjo similar to this? ...... anyone have images of the correct inlays above the 12th fret & heel?
