Hello. I just acquired a 1928 Vega Tubaphone #3 Plectrum banjo. My other banjos are old 1890 gut string banjos that I put Aquila Reds on and like the sound of them. My Vega was built in 1928, and I would assume came with steel strings. My question is can I put a set of Aquila Reds on the Vega? Thanks for any help.
Sure, why not? 5-string Vega Tubaphones were still being shipped with gut strings in 1928. I don't see why you couldn't string a plectrum that way.
