I would give this a "like" because I like your stories and posts. But I was afraid you'd think I was rootin' for the yellow jackets. . .
Ouch!

Did the same thing about 7 years ago, not boxers, but shorts.  Long pants ever since when brush hogging.  Also learned to keep my eyes open for those big white faced hornet nests.  Almost ran over a football sized one one year.  That old 8N will not out run those suckers when they are mad.

One must ask... is it better to risk the survival of some in the nest by essentially melting the top, or more effective to blow a handful of the little bastitches into the next county?

Asking for a friend. And figured you'd know the answer.

Jeez, it looks like you cooked those poor little bugs with white phosphorus.

Pour a pint of WD40 in the nest hole. Add a shovel of dirt. Go away.

Fig: Look on the internet for the guys who melt thousands of beer cans and pour the molten aluminum into ant nest holes.
When it sets and cools, they dig up the castings and wash them off. 100% astounding & elegant art work.

I wonder if this would work with wasps, too?

Fig .... for the "itchy" you could take/have taken an antihistamine.  I go stung on the legs about a dozen times several years ago while I was blowing  leaves.  I had also been in the woods, so after the been stings my legs itched like crazy for the entire next day, so I thought I had gotten a bunch of chigger bites  ..... it had happened before.  I then thought that it was a coincidence that it was also right where I had been stung.  I took a generic Claratin and in 20 minutes the itching was gone.  I have been stung a zillion times over the years and never have had an allergic reaction before.  I don't know if it was just the volume of stings or whether I have been allergic all of a sudden, but it sure helped me.  Of course, you are on other medications and I do not know how they react to over the counter drugs like anthihistamines, but if it is no problem, it will help the itching.
