The twist was introduced in 1960. Earl was 36 years at that time and was already famous.

Just out of morbid curiosity, what on EARTH led you to mention in association with the electric bass player at 1:09? The thumb pick? I don't get it.

Well Dick, it looked like a resemblance to Earl , at least to me it did. I put it up here as a joak. Forgive me if I’ll never be able to identify anyone in a police lineup. ;-)

btw, for more of my stepping on sacred ground, I figured out a way to play Earl’s “Nashville Blues” in E minor, without retuning the banjo.  Mercy - I hope I don’t roast in Hades....
