Ok..I'll admit it...Im a smart man that can figure stuff out, but I dont get it. I see the scale but how does it correlate to the intervals noted.

Justin learning the intervals on the chart is like me giving you a fishing pole and the tab provided by David is like serving you the fish at your table.
learn to use David’s tab to understand the interval chart and you’ll be eventually figuring the songs out for yourself because you’ll know the theory behind what you were doing. If you have any questions should be back here, there’s plenty of people that can answer.

jtwest , Rick (mmuussiiccaall ) makes a good point about finding the melody and how intervals can deepen your understanding of music and the banjo fretboard. He is also correct about people willing to help here on the Hangout.

The banjo in the video is being fingerpicked. I have added a couple more lines to my tab to suggest a basic clawhammer approximation of the banjo break later in the video.

I totally respect, appreciate, and understand all of what you are saying. Comparatively speaking I spent 18 years as a chef, people keep asking me for a recipe, my eyes would glaze over in disdain. You cant take a recipe and make a proper dish without an understanding of the ingredients and basic preparation.
I suppose I just need a simple "egg salad" to break up the repetition a bit.. I often think of giving it up (the banjo). especially after reading comments about dilettantism in other threads. But I'll push on.. Thanks for understanding. and thanks for the Clawhammer segment. I really like clawhammer.

Mmusiccalll- Just to be clear, I tried to sound it out (the song) before I posted.. but the intervals?- is that fifth fret slide to the 6th? then?
I tried playing the chart... but then what?
I dont want to seem like I am not considering your input. I took a year of guitar in public school. All notation. I am starting from scratch. I understand ABCDEFG. I found a guy locally that gave me two lessons then snowbirded. I got a little from him but the rest snowbirded over my head.. I'll be practicing what I have been given. Any more input is beyond appreciated.
