We frequently use the song, Our Town, by Iris Dement as our farewell song. The images with this video are from what Linda Jo and I love to do when we have time. That is, to travel the back roads of the Missouri Ozarks and document the forgotten out of the way places as well as the natural beauty of our state.
Linda Jo is playing a replica of an early 20th century Washburn parlor guitar. I'm playing a 1927 Gibson RB-1 resonator banjo that has been messed with over the decades.
Very nice, Don. I love that song.
Nice keepsake video and performance, Don. How many states does it include?
Thank you, both! Emiel , Some "Northern Exposure" cult group fb page asked us record the song. There is a wonderful "Transatlantic Session" video of Iris singing her song w/guitar with Emmylou singing harmony and Ally Bain playing fiddle. Sort of inspired us to try to make the song "OldTimey".
JanetB , all the photos are in MO. Most are in the southern Ozark region where Linda Jo's family roots are to be found. Wright, Douglass and Ozark counties primarily. A few photos are from closer to our temporary home here in the MO River country of central MO.
We are putting together a video centered around an historic bridge on old Route 66 that preservationists are trying to save from demolition by the Highway dept. Maybe music will help carry the day. We think you will enjoy the music and photography. We know you've been active in historic preservation in your area.
Very nice! Enjoyed your music and photos, and the way you pulled all together. Our family used to gather around the TV to watch Northern Exposure and we’d always anxiously wait for the closing soundtrack. This song was most impressive.
We are humbled. Thank you! The entire concept of using an eclectic radio station to set the tone for episodes was always so pleasing and helped keep the idea alive that radio could be interesting once again.
