I am looking for a recording king PB-681 Pot Assembly, I believe that is the gold one. I have seen the nickel plated ones on a few sites but cant find any gold plated ones. I saw one on here in the classifieds a few weeks ago... please help!
You'd probably be better off to buy the RK parts and have them gold-plated, The factory plating isn't all that great. Not bad, but not the best. I have a new RK85 that I will eventually have plated in antique gold.
I just sold a Flinthill gold-lated banjo for $500, which is cheaper than a gold-plate job would be.
How much do you think a gold plate job would run me?
Gold plating prices are thru the roof today because of gold prices
The nickel pot assemblies are sometimes very economical on Amazon. I bought one once for about 60% off. This might help you better afford the plating.
Why are you wanting a gold specifically RK pot?
If I were building an expensive fancy banjo, I might be inclined to purchase something with a more respected pedigree, deserved or not.
The rk tonering has a pedigree second to none
One time I think I bought just an RK flange on Amazon and it came with the whole pot assembly. Yay me.
The original gold plated hardware on my RK-87 has held up pretty well, much better than some Gibsons I've seen, but it came new with a bit of unevenness on the top of the tension hoop mainly, and of course has mostly worn away from the armrest.
