A bit of a weird thread, but I sold my ODE longneck reluctantly last year. I did love the long neck though, but it was heavy and got uncomfortable to play. I was looking at vintage again. Christy, vega folk, gibson RB175....there's quite a few to choose from. I was curious, in terms of weight, if any of these were significantly lighter weight than others? logic is telling me to stay away from the Aluminum rims, despite loving the look and sound. I was wondering if any long neck owners would be able to chime in. Many thanks!

Seems like it'd be the Vega SS-5 Folklore since there's no tone ring, but I'm no expert.

there is a Deering Vega Woodsong on the BHO classifieds right now. It would be nice and light. the gold painted rim and tail piece can be changed out. SS-5 Vega Folklore's are pretty light as are the old Bacon folk models.

Gibson RB-175's are great, (I've had 2).I especially like the deep pot rather than the shallow Vega types with the brackets sticking out and poking you. There seem to be a lot of these out there lately at good prices. I believe Intermountain Guitar and banjo has a couple, Smakula had one at last look, and probably a few right here on the hangout, anyway, happy hunting!

Lightest weight long neck banjo is a Harmony Resotone.

The lightest longneck is a Helix antelope jack = 7 pounds
Bamboo neck and rim,
hot rod 2 -way truss rod
Bass fingerboard Ebony or rosewood
18 hooks
Resonator or spoon friendly

Of the vintage rjgs, I think mr. Smakula is correct re: Harmony and Sears and etc

Sidebar: there are FOUR subspecies of antelope jackrabbit = big bunny. Jackelope is a funny joke. Ha ha. But Lewis and Clark saw them from Council Bluffs, they exist, they’re rare and delicate, God made them, we’ll try to conserve them

The bamboo is epoxy infused flooring ,amber in color with a Fifty yr warranty. The musical response is fantastic and gets better by the week. The #001 has been out in the shop in the open for ten years
Playing banjos is a lot of fun
Building them....ah that’s the challenge
