I've been doing a new series on YouTube for the last month on beginner banjo and now we're at our first song. This song is a great exercise in forward, backward, and alternating rolls.

I'm new here, but my content has been shared here before so some of you may be familiar with me. Here's a little about myself. I have a background in video production and have played banjo for 14 years. I started at 12 years old and played competitively and professionally, but now I just jam with other pickers. I hope I can bring you some high quality instructional videos.

Nice lilt you got going there . I notice at the halfway point of your part B that you go from a D to a G chord instead of holding the D chord for the whole measure.

Thanks! It probably should stay in D. It sounds like it should. This is just how it was taught to me years ago. It's more of an exercise in simple rolls than anything you would actually play at a jam session or a gig. Similar to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the fiddle, or Mary Had A Little Lamb on piano.

It was my second song, but it probably should have been my first. it's great foundational learning. My first song was Cripple Creek because I loved Earls Scruggs' version of it. I was ambitious! haha
