I am a beginner, just coming up on four months in, and loving my 5 string banjo. Who says you can't learn in your 60s! I wonder whether it would be ok to ask if anyone might have the tabs for the song in The Hobbit: The Last Goodbye by Billy Boyd in the same key as he sings it? It is on You Tube but I'm just starting here so I can't post a link. I am learning Scruggs style but love anything that has a melodic style too. Maybe something I can sing along with or melodic ...I don't know if one comes with the other or they are distinct kinds of tabs...yes, that is how new I am. I can't find tabs anywhere despite many searches. I hope this is an ok request...I am too early in my learning to be able to pay it forward yet. Thank you so much if anyone has these tabs and if not, I guess I have something to figure out when I am further down the road (yes that's a joke...I just learned Down the Road a few weeks ago.)

If you are wanting to play music out of the banjo wheelhouse you should learn to read standard music notation. Here's the PDF of the song you referenced, lead vocal and chords in the original key. The bad news is that the vocal range is 21 pitches and it has notes to go to low for a banjo in this key. BTW it could be played an octave higher but it would drive you up to the first string 15th fret. The chords are quite accessible.

Thank you. I am working on the reading part. Slowly. So even if tabs were done, there would have to be some adjustments because of the range limitations. Hadn't thought of that. Thank you!
