Hi all.
Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place. I am working through some Estate assets and have a banjo stamped "J E Dallas Maker 202 High Holborn ?? (looks like WC) 7020" .

I am trying to determine its age, and if it has any value before I list it for auction or sell it.

It is missing 1 tuning peg. needs new strings, neck appears level, it is approx 11 inches wide and 35 long . No case has been located

Not being a banjo player, I am not sure what other information is needed to determine its value or age, but happy to provide more if needed (probably will also need instructions where to locate)

There was a website that listed British banjo makers historical info but I cannot find it anymore. I printed it off to keep in my archives. That address puts it around 1914 when John E Dallas company moved there. They ceased to make banjos at the start of WW2 but restarted to make inexpensive ones in 1947. These were the 'Jedson' branded ones.

I looks like yours was made between 1914 to the late 1920's.

Here is the history... https://www.dallaspedals.com/History.html

Hope it helps

That's a nice quality Dallas banjo but from the lower end of the range. I would reckon it dates circa 1920. Shame it's missing the original 5th string tuner. In good order it would probably sell for £200 - £250 here in the UK.

Hi Wayne. Let's not forget the quality of pre WW2 Jedson banjos. I don't think i would call my Jedson Deluxe inexpensive. :-)

Plus there were all those Slingerland knock off models with the beautiful Birds Eye Maple resonators.
