I received a couple of rare NOS calf hides in trade several months ago. Just now got around to mounting the first one. Reportedly this hide came from the long defunct United Tanning Co. in Chicago. It had been stored, unused, for decades.
The hide is thicker than what I now order from Jeff Stern. It seems very sturdy and stiff. It is opaque and off-white. i think it will sound great! Because of the extra thickness, I'd recommend it on an open-back banjo for old-time playing (rather than bluegrass).
