This week's Monday music is "What Wondrous Love Is This", an old Sacred Harp shape note hymn. The key isn't major *or* minor, it's modal.
I'm playing in D, with the 5th string tuned up to A. I'm wearing finger picks but the style is more like old-time thumb-lead up-picking than bluegrass Scruggs style.
Excellent job! If you are not doing anything on Easter, come and play it at my church!
Thanks! I'm influenced by some great recordings of this song:
Bill Evans & Suzanne Thomas
The Ephemeral Stringband
And by how Tim Eriksen sings and plays shape note hymns.
But I think my favorite version of Wondrous Love is Blue Highway's!
