Spent several delightful days in Christchurch on the way to and from Antarctica ... very sad to have this awful behavior inflicted on such wonderful people.

Multiple Fatalities.............they are commonplace words to me. I see them all the time in the news here.

I didn't know what you were typing about until I googled it.

Another appalling act in man's terrible inhumanity to man. So sad.

A sickening act of hate that does not reflect the wider reality of a beautiful country and it's decent people.

Why hate? Where does that vile destructive sickness come from?

Actively demonstrating love and togetherness is the answer.

I'm so very sorry. I'm sure this is the last thing anyone ever expected to be heard coming from such a peaceful place as New Zealand.

As for the source of this "vile, destructive sickness", Mike... there are comments from people who have read the shooter's manifesto that point to one source. I can't talk about it here. Look it up. It makes me sick.

Heard about it on the radio while running errands, truly a sad day indeed. Horrible how a single deranged person can cause so much trouble the the whole world mourns.

A school shooting in Brazil 2 days ago also tears at my heart.

We do know where  his ideology comes from, too bad it can’t be discussed here. Sick person meets sick ideology equals sick outcome.

There is of course a time and place for understanding the source and motivation so that this vileness can be more effectively prevented.

But increasingly I realise that the most powerful antidote available to us who are not professionals in counter-terrorism is the simplest and most direct: to demonstrate love and unity and celebrate our diverse communities regardless of ethnicity or cultural background. To live and embody the positive human moral values we believe in.

New Zealand is not the clean green idyll that many people think. Given that this is an appalling tragedy, we have had mass shootings before. We have one of the highest domestic violence rates in the world. Drug use is rampant. The silent epidemic of killing unborn children is ever present. We tend to be selective over the events we pour our grief and anger over.

This scumbag live streamed the attack on facebook. The video of it is all over the forums that alt-right and nationalist losers post on, and they are praising the gunman as a hero. It's absolutely sickening.

Here is a snip of a post that I found in about 2 seconds on 4chan.org/pol, an alt-right loser haven. There are a lot more threads there right now just like it.  Denial does not help or change anything.
