In the Four String Performance......Jimmy Mazzy! I LOVE this gentleman. If any of you haven't heard this guy.....give a close listen....Exceptional Musician.
Thought I'd post this here while the "Grammys" are going down tonight.
Congratulations Mr. Mazzy!
Jimmy who?.......... The older I get..... the less I care about what any one person thinks....we all have our favorites right? I love Jimmy.
And.... the older I get.... I really take pause to what the majority thinks..... because the majority, will try to pressure you into what they like.....screw the majority...like what you like..... and don't take any bulls*** from anybody
David, Jimmy sure is the real thing. Both voice and Banjo. Great to see he got the Hall Of Fame honor. Wish I could go out to see and hear him get it. Eddy
I'd give anything to hear you Eddy, and Jimmy, together in a session. Some backroom, late night, bar session.....a dream session for me.
Mike....the one person who likes Mazzy, besides Eddy. You know Mike.
Thanks Dave ; I have been a fan for 50 years of Jim Mazzy. It was his leaving Sweeny,s Gay 90s that started my 8 yaer run there. He is unique in his style and really deserves this tribute. It,s about time this happened. Regards MIke Hashem PS See you in March in Pa. MH
I remember you telling me about your gig there Mike. I'm so glad I got to hear Jimmy up in Boston. I'm looking forward to seeing you.....and hearing you!....next month. I'd better start practicing.
I love Jimmy Mazzy. I have been collecting his records on vinyl - it's a shame his music isn't more widely available - when I get a chance I might upload a few tracks so people can hear his sound.
Yeah Mike, the first time I heard Jimmy was at the New England Jazz Banjo Fest a few years ago. He and his band where a stand in for someone who didn't show, and I'm so glad they didn't. When I heard him, it was like....who is this guy! His voice was it......and his playing matches......he plays differently, and I love it.
Count Mee in as a big fan of Jimm Mazzy. I have some cassette tapes of him playing that Borgy gave me when I first started playing seriously again. He is the real deal kike so many others, a number who are contributors to banjo hangout. Anybody else going to Dearborn this Spring? Not sure I can swing AllFrets this year so Dearborn may be my present to myself.
We'll be in Dearborn and I'd love to have you onstage with mee! Since All Frets is 90 miles from our driveway we'll also be there.
Lance, we don't hear anywhere near enough of your fine plectrum banjo playin' here on this forum ....... so can you try and record plenty of banjo playin' action from Dearborn ..... it's the second best outcome for those unfortunates, me included, that can't get there to enjoy it all.
Live postings are always so welcome right here on this forum, so if you've got something to contribute, please, don't hesitate, post away and join in!!!!. ..... Don.
Thanks so much Don. I'm a little challenged by the whole posting videos process unlike you, Marco, Eddy, and David. I promise I will try and figure it out and attempt to post some video from Dearborn. Are you on Facebook? I ask because there are some videos posted on my page and my wife's from Dearborn and All Frets last year.
Great stuff Carrie....which one is singing? he reminds me of Mazzy. Both great instrumentalists
On that track it is Jeff Barnhart (who also plays piano). Spats Langham is the banjo player (he also sings). They have done two fab albums together.
Yes, they’re on Spotify, been listening to them this morning. They’ve got chops.
p.s. Just posted a track by Mr Mazzy in the media section (for some reason not showing up in attachment list)
Yeah Carrie!.......That is the stuff!.........awesome.....Thanks for putting em' up!
Great stuff, Carrie. Thank you. I'm adding Don't leave me here to our song list. Had the pleasure of seeing Jimmy several times, and every time he was awesome.
You're welcome Annie - 'Don't you leave me here' is one of my favourites. Would love to see Jimmy Mazzy live.
Annie......you need to advertise your banjo fest on here! See you all in a few weeks.
