Brief alert, for Friday 11. January 2019: going through British papers, online, I just noticed that an article commemorating Ear Scruggs has just appeared in the Independent.
Normally I'm in BHO's jazx forum, but I figure that you guys and gals over here will be interested.
Sorry I'm unable to provide a link. I only have a smartphone to go online with.
The first still in the video is of Jerry Reed, the equivalent of us yanks putting a picture of a young Mick Jagger up for Rod Stewart LOL
And, yes, Jerry Reed was an accomplished banjo player, but in the photo he's playing an electric guitar LOL
And the background music is a tenor banjo playing something other than bluegrass. Not that ES always played bluegrass (remember Chariots of Fire, etc.)
Still glad to see the article and the Google thing, thanks for posting Thynner
My pleasure. But please address me with 'Veerstryngh'. :-)
Articles like that were common place on this side of the pond, especially if you subscribed to Bluegrass Unlimited or Banjo News Letter. The Earl Scruggs instruction book has little more biographical info on Earl. The book Earl Scruggs, Banjo Icon, has a lot. There are a lot of stories floating around about Earl. (the Don Reno trade, Earl taking a rasp to the neck on one of those banjos)
