Ah, Bix! Dead and gone for almost a century now, give or take a few years - but his marvellous cornet is still going strong!

And there's the 10K 'the Bix' road race in Davenport, Iowa during the hottest part of summer. They should set up speakers along the race route to pipe in his music - might make the running easier!

Big Bix fan here... even used to play in a band devoted to his memory, the Rainbow Gardens Orchestra in Toronto.

Can you imagine Bix running that Davenport marathon?

He'd have a cigarette in one hand and a martini in the other...

"Hey, fellas! Wait for me!"

Speaking of Davenport.

My favourite rendition of Davenport Blues is Alex Welsh's and Fred Hunt's beautiful duet (On 'An Evening With Alex Welsh and Friends'). just trumpet and piano. And still as fresh and sparkling as when first recorded, decades ago.

I'd really like to record that with a young jazz trumpeter I know, some day. Trumpet or flugelhorn and electric tenor guitar. But it'll be deep into 2019 before I'll have some functional recording equipment again.

I hope the link is live.
