He didn't have the virtuoso chops of Harry Reser, but Sleepy Hall had a wonderfully loose-wristed strumming style and an innate sense of syncopation... his playing just makes me happy!

Other titles I can't find online ... "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" "My Little Debutante"

And here he is captured on film playing banjo at his 1969 45th reunion of the Yale class of 1924...

Perhaps I should also mention that dozens of the records made in the early thirties bearing names like "Sleepy Hall and his Collegians" not only don't have Sleepy Hall on them, but also don't have any banjo at all, for that matter.

It seems the record company just liked the name Sleepy Hall, and used it for any studio recording group they pleased!

Thanks for sharing these, Will. These are wonderful recordings. He had some very good right hand technique.

There's a photo of Sleepy Hall in the c. 1926 Paramount catalog.

I noticed a few notables among those captured in that 1969 Yale reunion film, including our old mayor, John V. Lindsay.

I noticed John Lindsay too, but really wanted to know who the chick was with the cigarette in her mouth ..... probably not in that Yale class ..... maybe a trophy wife or daughter!

That's what I was thinking!  Reminds me a little of Mrs. Robinson (Lauren Bacall) in The Graduate!
