Anybody use a wound .020 / .022 gauge string that is long lasting? If so make of string? Due to the thinness of those gauges the outer wrap does not last long---your experiences? .024 wound and upwards a lot longer life on the windings.
Stainless winding could be more durable than bronze.
I use/sell 018W, 020W and 022W for various banjo types and tunings - always D´Addario nickel wound - I´ve never experienced a problem with excessive wear.
I use an .018 or 020 wound third on my plectrum banjo and have never had any problems. It's my much heavier fourth string that needs replacement more often than the rest.
