We have had this poor bugger hanging around our house the last few days and feel terrible about it, but he needs to be put down. I called the DNR, as I really don’t want to handle it as he looks so sick and mangey!!! Been in the woods and have seen a lot of weird stuff, but this one takes the cake. It’s been right up tight next to the house and and windows and I think it uses the reflection of the window to see in other directions.
The DNR biologist said she would let me know what they find out , if the are able to find it before it becomes prey to coyotes or dies on its own. My wife who saw it just outside our window first , thought it was a Lama or baby camel. I thought what the hell.......until I saw it myself.

Don’t worry Fig, .......no venison meatballs from this one!!!

Poor guy's horns never made it out of their holes in his head.

Too bad to. All the other deer probably make fun of him.

Defects happen in the development of all species.
Most, you never get to see. Nothing you can do to fix it.

I asked the DNR lady if given the opportunity could I dispatch this deer myself and let them know?
She told me they didn't want me to be shooting out the window. I told her "well, it wouldn't be the first time" jokingly........she was NOT impressed !!! Boy, lighten up !!! She called me last night to keep me updated which I thought was nice and said she has her guys working on it and will let me know when they find something out . If they do get it, it will be tested and studied for all kinds of stuff and thanked me for cooperating and letting them on my land.
She also told me at the end of our conversation, that when she was walking our property yesterday and around the house, she was so impressed and had never seen a better view of the Bay and Lake Michigan and was jealous. Yeah, I'm pretty damn lucky to get up everyday and see that I told her.

Could it be some type of parasite?  Parasites are common in deer.

Boy slammer...I’ll never forget the view I have of Lake Michigan...forever engrained into my mind and soul......

Boot camp, mid November, 3:30am, standing at attention out on the grinder getting ready to PT...icy cold wind in my face, cutting right through me....ah....beautiful Lake Michigan.

And about that deer. It’s a doe, no horns, a buck would have his horns closer up to the ears. Probably somebody took a head shot, wounded it, it ran off and now is staggering around just waiting to die. I’d put that poor girl down, she’s in a lot of pain.

Love your description of Lake Mi. Dow !!! LOL I've had many of those myself but never because I had to. LMAO
I don't believe this poor deer was headshot. Young small deer from last year I believe and we are in a pretty residential area, besides that, us Yoopers are pretty damn good shots !!! LOL Some kind of disease or tumor and I think your right about it being in pain and needing to be put down. The DNR is on it and staking out our area right at this time.

It's not chronic wasting disease (CWD), is it?  That's some serious stuff.  It's been a problem here in Texas and I've lost track of where all it has spread to.  Be real careful hunting or eating any deer if it's known to be in your area!

The DNR started baiting on my property today and will keep me informed. I too ,hope it’s not CWD as we had a scare with it and testing done deer a few years back, but they were from another state. If not dispatched tomorrow, they will put out a trail cam and come back Monday. I don’t normally take deer off my property here , as I have a deer camp with 80 acres about 40 minutes from my home. This is my Beer camp!!!

So let's grab our banjos and CHEER him UP!

==================================

Gandalf, the goiter-headed reindeer,

Had a very lumpy head!

And folks thought he looked sickly,

Some said that he'd soon be dead!

All of the other reindeer

Used to shy away in horror.

They said that they didn't want him

Come around them any more.

Then a Banjo HangOut guy,

"Slammer" was his name

Put his picture on the net,

Brought him instant fame!

Then did the DNR lady

Come around and did agree

What little Gandalf needed

Was a thorough autopsy!

I agree, CWD doesn't appear to be what's ailing the poor deer around your home.  My mention of CWD was in reference to figmo's comment on sickly, underweight deer in his area.
