Just saw a new listing on ebay--very decorative 19th century banjo.
Not my listing, and I don't plan to bid, but it looks interesting.

Pretty wild. Too bad most of the original hooks and nuts are gone. The replacements look like real cheap ones. Hopefully whoever buys it will take the original hardware to a machine shop and have some proper reproductions made.

For £1750 someone must have really wanted that one. A couple of people i know voiced an interest but not at that price. I have doubts about the fingerboard being original although of course it may have been some fancy 19th century up-cycling !

I agree about the fingerboard. The edge detail and variable symmetry look like it has been created by cutting down  something larger. It's also not clear if it is true Boulle (corresponding metal and veneer producing a smooth surface) or just a pierced brass overlay - which wouldn't be the ideal playing surface.
