I've had the Scruggs book since around '79 may be '78. I have been rehabbing some from knee replacement infection that was cleaned out kind of debridement. While during that proceed I've listened to JD Crowe, Paul Williams, and Doyle Lawson. One of the times Shucking the Corn I noted was in the Scruggs book. I also heard Tom Moore doing the same number. Am I still woozy or what but I can't see there the three partial chord movement in the song on tab in the book. It appears to be G A to Bb movement, I think

I think you are referring to the part of the tune where all the shucking is going on. where he pinches those 2 note chords from 15 to 14 to 12th frets on the 1st and 2nd frets. It's not in the Scruggs book but I made a tab of the all the breaks from the original recording here: Shucking the Corn - Foggy Mtn Jamboree LP starting on measure 49. Good luck.

This should read from the,  15th, 14th, 12th frets and back up on the 1st and 2nd strings, not as I have written it, sorry.

Yea. That part is not in the book. Had me scratching my head. I had never done or, I think, even heard that song but that part wasn't in there for some reason. I heard this morning Earl do that shucking thing too. So your tab has it? I assume I can use it. Thanks

That link has an error message. Maybe that's not the tab but something else. Do I go to tab library?

Earl doesn't shuck up the neck on the first break, he does halfway through the 2nd break and the third break too. Earl's first break shuck is totally different than the up the neck shucking. Most people who pick it now-a-days shuck it the same way an octave down in the first break...not the way Earl played it originally. It's nice to hear it both ways. Try this link Shuckin' the Corn

It's in the Tab Library under Shuckin' The Corn - Earl

Thinks for this version Mike! I have seen players note the 5th string while playing the up-the-neck C7, but this version is played open. I was wondering if Earl noted it in any of his versions.

To tell you the truth, I don't know...would have been a good idea to watch how he did it. I just tabbed out what works for me,  and hopefully the correct notes (as I hear them). I am sure most people will tweak it so it works best for them. Which way do you find more comfortable for you?

It's more comfortable to play it open. Fretting the 5th is hard on arthritic hands! :)

Shuckin’ is my fav Scruggs tune...since I was just a kid...hearing that C7 being held for so long hooked me!

I listened to a lot of the Pet Milk Show intros...which is Earl playing “Shuckin” over and over again...but he doesn’t do it the same ever. There’s always a little something different each time. Like Mike says, he usually goes high up the neck to Shuck first off, but he also does it low too sometimes. A great tune...I’ve got
a Pet Milk version somewhere here on the hangout that I recorded with my Scruggs Vega...check it out if you can.

And thanks for the tab Mike...it’ll be nice to go over it and see how far off I’ve been playing by ear.
