i came across this while surfing today..outside of the fact that they start off in different keys theres something amiss...the banjo player must have a helluva fast thumb to pick three finger banjo using only her thumb...

and this got almost a million and a half hits..smh

Your settings are all wrong. If you set the quality setting to 1080p and the speed to 2X and you start the video at the 4:56 mark it looks and sounds a lot better and in tune.

Nothing off about it!

Two people who can't play, getting hits on youtube from and by people who are too stupid to know the difference!

C'mon Kevin...cut me some slack.  I hope there's a difference between stupid, ignorant and indifferent.   devil

Wow....1.4 million views....that’s nuts. I was going to say there should be a disclaimer about them using Weissbergs original recording....but after listening to it closer,
I don’t think it is the original....it’s close, but different.

I am reminded of the time I was in the music store taking my goldtone ob-250 for a test flight...

this girl was in with her mom trying out acoustic guitars..she was obviously pretty new to guitar playing..anyway i am sitting there tinkering about on the goldtone and i hear that all too familiar gggcg on the guitar..what else could i do but respond in kind..i was trying to goad her into dueling banjos but i guess she was too young to tell what i was doing..i tried

Owen,

I said that out of shear jealousy, the sad part is, there are legit banjo pickers that could play that, in the same setting, and wouldn't get 14 hits, not to mention 1.4 million!

Just as a point of information, there's a right-hand technique that I sometimes use on my manouche; here's how it works. I use my thumbnail to strike thrre adjacent strings, as one would an arpeggio, but when needed I can 'skip' over one or two strings between my base (melody) note and arpeggiate the next note or two on strings that aren't adjacent to that on which I played the melody note. If I used my index and middle finger for the second and third note it would be like playing classical guitar, but by using the thumb only I can make the three notes have a similar voicing and attack. Several triplets played like this in quick succession can sound very reminiscent of a banjo roll. It can be very tiring to the thumb to do this for more than a few bars.

Oh come on everyone, it's just a cute bit of video-making updating an old meme.

No worse than the original movie banjo player!!

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that this sort of thing can put you in jail in at least twenty states... :)

As for the video: even forgiving them for not being able to play the instruments they are holding it's just not funny at all.

Just remember folks, the hit counters don't know the difference between an ironic view and an earnest view. How many of those 1.4 million are folks like us? Anyone remember Rebecca Black?

To me, it's pretty obvious that this is a demonstration of video and audio editing skills, not music. Notice that the intro graphic is for a production house, not a band. And the YouTube channel is a production house, not a band. To that end, I think the video perfectly serves its purpose.

I imagine most of those views are from people who click on a link like we all did and watch for a few seconds and turn it off because it is so stupid.

And, this wasn't the first time I was tricked into watching it.
