I've been using Onlinemetals.com for all my metals purchases.  Materials are fairly cheap, but shipping gets to be a bit high for on line purchases.  Online (and most others) offset it a bit by fairly regularly offering e-mail discounts or 20%.

+1 for onlinemetals, they had the best prices I could find when I was looking around a couple of years ago, except that now and then something will come up on eBay that's a better price. I try to buy in larger quantities when I can and that seems to help spread the shipping cost out a bit, though it still is pretty high. I figure that's the price I pay for living in the hinterlands.

Thank you all for helping me out here. I've been planning on making a minstrel and gourd banjo for a long time. I've got gourds for the gourd banjos and a little bit of brass hardware for the minstrel banjo.

I purchased a 13" tension hoop from Rickard Banjos. It wasn't on the website, but perhaps they still have some in stock?
