Who is Zach Hoyt? Why are they auctioning off one of his banjos? Is he a legitimate banjo maker?

Zach is a builder in upstate NY. He has built upwards of 60 banjos. His banjos are open back mostly but he does have an internal resonator banjo. Uses a lot of local woods, some milled on his farm. He is very great to work with for custom banjos. The banjos are very solid, very well made, and have a beautiful simplicity-ie not a lot of bling in the way of engraving, inlay, etc. The beauty of the wood speaks-visually and tonally. So certainly worth you the effort to enter if you want an old time/clawhammer banjo. If you don't enter that is okay. Increases my odds of winning wink

Well, to take your questions in order:

1. I am myself, I think, though I may possibly be a figment of my own or someone else's imagination.

II. They (Eric et al.) were kind enough to include me in the giveaway program when I asked about it.

C. To the best of my knowledge my parents were married at the time of my arrival so I guess I am, at least to that extent.

I hope these answers help, or at least don't muddy the waters excessively.

The old proverb about not looking a gift horse in the mouth could be usefully adapted here...

and you ride a bike. Can it get any better? I don't think so.

PS Your numbering (1. II C) made me giggle.

I've never gone by that proverb, myself. I can imagine being given a horse with so long in the tooth that he'll drop dead the next day and I'll be stuck with the expense of having his carcass shipped to the glue factory. Gifts can sometimes be disasters in disguise.

That said, I've been following a lot of Zach's comments, and that's a good enough look into his banjos' mouths. I'll enter.

Zach is a solid builder with a great willingness to try things new on request. Which makes custom work fun with him. He has done several things for me and I have been happy with them all. All my banjos have at least some of his work on them.

You can search that new thing called the internet and find a short video (from a longer one) where Zach was featured and talks about his craft and shows some of his shop.

Zachary Hoyt is a man on a mission. He tackles all tasks with a quiet, determined resourcefulness that always gets the job done. You'll sense a couple of themes that consistently come through Zach's kind yet focused approach to life. Like so many I've met on this journey, there's a light that shines in all of us. Sharing paths with light-keepers like Zach is a blessing. Zach puts that blessing in all his works.

He fabricated his Banjo #34 for me. He deviated from his normal build to accommodate my needs (peg head configuration, neck/dowel stripe, peg head overlay). Really happy with the instrument.

The only logical explanation is that Bluegrass Fanatic IS Zachary Hoyt looking for free publicity. Anything else - Like starting a thread and reading all the replies when you can sign up for a free lottery in 15 seconds just doesn't make sense.

He also appears to be very tall!

EDITED TO ADD: And you addressed that in the video, which I hadn't let play through before commenting. SEVEN FEET TALL!

Don't think that thought would ever cross Zach's mind.  He's just not wired that way.  In fact, he's just the opposite... honest, kind, humble, caring, thoughtful.  I'd like you to meet Zach.  For a day or so, here's a free pass to his interview:  https://vimeo.com/237015758

Didn't the Greeks hide out in a gift horse and then proceed to sack an entire city? Check the pot before accepting a free banjo to make sure there are no Greeks inside.
