Chief,

All THREE inlay patterns? I've only ever seen chief banjos with either Hearts and Flowers or the Indian/hatchet motif. What other one is running around out in the wild?

Congrats to Kristin. I was rooting for Ron Stewart, but Kristin is certainly deserving of the honor.

Ron and/or Kristin...equal I would say. Ron is more aggressive while Kristin is the epitome of perfection.
Either could have won but I'm glad it was Kristin...she plays a Chief banjo..'nuff said huh! And..are there any questions?

Hey..Jason Davis is now playing a Chief Mahogany. Young kid who can really play. He has a CD on Pinecastle that is quite good. If you haven't checked him out, you should...like I said, he can play.

IBMA was fun. I usually don't go to things where there is a lot of people, but I did this year and enjoyed most everything I saw and heard. We saw Ray Price Friday night. What a treat to see and hear a man who will be 84 and still able to sing and compete with the best. He had a 13 piece band...complete class in their appearance and performance.

I talked to Ray for a few minutes after his performance...thanks to Eddie Stubbs. I've known him over 40 years.

Of course, the most enjoyable thing that Sonny did at the IBMA was listening to me butcher songs on one of his maple Chief banjos for about an hour on Saturday. Then, Sunday morning, he delivered that same banjo to go home with me!

Sonny,
Jason sounded great on stage with the Chief.
Kristin's sound literally pulls you in from outside the hall. There is definitely a recognizable tone.
I walked by and thought " Is that me up there ?"
Plesant to see you holding court at the Pinecastle booth.
It aint but a few days now ...

Next Wednesday night I should be pulling into the Comfort Inn Music Row in Nashville.
I'm still not sure which way to drive from Salisbury, MD. One way takes me around the Washington, DC Beltway to 66 then 81. The other way is south to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and then 64 west. The southern route is a little longer, 14 hours vs 13.

If any of you road warriors knows the best way to go, let me know,OK?

Can't wait!

Stan..I usually leave from Harrisburg and take 81 south to Knoxville..then 40 west to Nashville. easy drive....and the roads are great once you get out of PA:(

This year I am leaving from Pittsburgh..so I'll take a different route.

Stan,

As long as you're not driving the beltway during rush hour, I would go the "northern route" (81).

Thanks, Ron & Tyler,
It seems like 81 is the shortest route. Leaving Salisbury after work should get me to 495 around 7, which should be the end of rush hour. I'll get some shut eye in Harrisonburg, then about 8-9 more hours of driving on Wednesday. If I'm not too jet lagged and stupified, I might try to head to the Station Inn for a little inspiration.
See you in Nash Vegas!
