Notes: This is from the famous front porch tape Steve Arkin and Bill Keith made of Bobby Thompson’s playing in 1964. The quality of the recording is low, and I could not always clearly hear what Thompson was playing. So take it FWIW. Liza Jane must at one time have been a popular name, resulting in at least 3 songs or tunes in country music. There is Ole Liza Jane, which Merle Travis recorded as a nonsense song and Don Stover recorded as a lovely banjo tune (https://www.banjohangout.org/tab/browse.asp?m=detail&v=26264). There is also Goodbye Liza Jane, which I associate with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys (https://www.banjohangout.org/tab/browse.asp?m=detail&v=27278). And then there is Bobby Thompson’s version, which seems to exist in a Universe all its own.

Did you try running the taped song thru one of those new online AI separator sites? It might help to make the banjo all little clearer.

Joseph, that is an interesting idea. Thank you. And Jack, thank you for your positive comment. It was fun to work out Thompson's simple but elegant arrangement. Keep on rockn!
