Notes: This gospel number has a straightforward melody, and the trick is to capture the melody without defaulting to formulaic rolls that obscure it. I first heard the song on the 1964 Folkways recording by Red Allen and Frank Wakefield. and it sounded to me as though Allen was singing "are you warshed ..." Incidentally, the banjo player on the track was Pete Roberts (Pete Kuykendall), who soon became the founding editor of Bluegrass Unlimited magazine. You can also find a version by Flatt and Scruggs on volume 2 of their tv show videos, with tasty guitar work by Earl.
