Thanks, Jack. It’s a great tune, and I always think of it as Sonny’s even though It was written by, or at least credited to, Benny Birchfield, who at the time was the guitar player for the Osbornes. Stay healthy, Michael

Jack, I checked the discography on the Bear Family box, and here was the lineup for Big Ben: Sonny Osborne, banjo; Bobby Osborne, mandolin; John Slagle, Jr. (“Jimmy Brown, Jr.”), guitar; Benny Birchfield, banjo; Lightnin’ Chance, bass; Buddy Harmon, Jr., drums.

Alan Munde and Bill Evans seem to think it was Dale Sledd on the other banjo...who knows?
