Interesting. I play this in E (with a rock band) but I do the Luther Perkins break an octave lower (which allows the use of open 1st and 2nd strings in the 1st part of the break). I will have a go at a version similar to John Stiltner's now as an alternative variation. Thank you for posting this and bringing the Youtube video to my attention.
