Bonaparte's Retreat - Melvin Wine's version

Genre: Old Time  Style: Clawhammer and Old-Time  Key: A  Difficulty: Intermediate
Posted by dbrooks, updated: 10/4/2014
Download: PDF

Notes: This unusual version of "Bonaparte's Retreat" comes from Melvin Wine. Unlike other versions, it is in 6/8 time as a jig. Also has an unusual variant of G tuning (gBGBD) capoed at 2nd fret for the key of A (aC#AC#E). Melvin's father wouldn't let him touch his fiddle, but Melvin would play it while his father was away from the house. This is the first tune Melvin played for his father and that convinced him to let young Melvin continue to play his fiddle. Thanks to Carl Baron for clearing up many things about this arrangement. You can Melvin play this tune at Slippery Hill or Bearea archives.
