sorry maybe a dumb question. I've played banjo for around 8 years now and ive never seen that mark that has the 3 ->1/4 and i was wondering what it means? never to late to learn I guess haha

That's a quarter note bend, meaning you don't bend up to the note on the next higher fret but somewhere half-way between the current note and the one on the next note.
