Is there any reason tot hink that Bill Emerson played this capo 2, instead of capo 7?

Easy...
Try the ending with capo 7.
Besides a banjo would sound funny (as: 'there's something very wrong here') with a capo on the 7th fret.
The only song I know of where it really works would be 'Matterhorn'
I do most of the stuff in D without a capo, but just spiking the 5th on 7.
But for WTNY this would introduce too many points, making it harder sounding as close to Bill as one possibly could. So capo 2, spike 7 it is for me...
Boy, was he a precise, clean player.
