Arkansas Traveler "D" Melodic

Genre: Bluegrass  Style: Other  Key: D  Tuning: Standard Open G (gDGBD)  Difficulty: Intermediate
Posted by flyakfish, updated: 2/24/2021

Notes: This is a melodic tab in G tuning but with the 5th string tuned down one fret to F# for the key of "D". This tuning works great for many songs in the key of "D" played in the melodic style. I will post more.

Freight Train "C" Melodic

Notes: Played in open "G" tuning. Since guitar players like to play this in "C" I thought I would try a version with some melodic spices and without a capo or retuning..

Liberty "D" Melodic

Notes: This song is played melodic style in the key of "D" in standard "G" tuning but with the 5th string lowered one fret to F#. This makes it easy to play and very flowing melodic style by not repeating the same string. This tuning works for many songs played melodic style in "D". I haven't seen this tuning here so I am posting several for examples.

Notes: A melodic version in the key of "D" played in standard "G" tuning but with the 5th string dropped one fret to F#. This makes the fingering easy and more flowing played melodic style without repeating the same string. I will post more songs I play this way since I haven't seen this simple tuning used here.

Ragtime Annie "D" Melodic

Genre: Bluegrass  Style: Other  Key: D  Tuning: aDGBD  Difficulty: Intermediate

Notes: This is a melodic version in the key of "D" in standard open "G" tuning but with the 5th string "G" tuned up two frets to an "A" note. The first part with the 5th string tuned higher really allows you to play true to the melody, the fingering is easy and it really flows. By playing songs in "D" melodic style and tuning the 5th string to either an "A" note higher or an "F#" note lower you can get the same flow as songs played in "G". I have have posted several other easy examples for anyone interested.

Red Haired Boy "A" Melodic

Notes: Tab is written in the Melodic style. Most often played in the key of "A" (Capo 2nd fret, tune 5th string to "A").

Soldier's Joy "D" Melodic/Single String

Notes: This is a melodic version in the key of "D" played in open "G" tuning but with the 5th string tuned down one fret to F#. This makes the fingering easy and helps from repeating the same string for more flowing melodic. I haven't seen this tuning here before so I am posting several of my song arrangements for melodic players to experiment. A mostly standard version just to highlight the tuning which I think you will like.
