Straps: Dogwood Designs Custom

Called Dave and gave him artistic leeway to create a strap to match my Psalms 34:3 banjo. It turned out fantastic! He had a few email problems that lengthened the transaction but overall he's a great guy to work with and the quality is top notch.

Mike Bennett

Six months ago I had my instructer and local Missoula bano builder, Mike Bennett ( start on my lifetime "keeper" banjo. The guts are a OFF Sullivan rim with a Huber tone ring. The neck Mike built has some great character and is from 25 year old walnut that he said, "for some reason he never used". The resonator too is full of character and walnut in construction. Mike did a fantastic job and deserves credit beyond this simple post. Checkout my home page for photos although they dont do the banjo any justice.

I just got back my armrest that Steffan engraved. What a FANTASTIC piece of craftsmanship! I will post photos once the banjo is completed. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to deal with someone who is a truly honest, communicates well, and is a real craftsman.

Bridges: Sullivan Old Growth Bridge 5/8"

I'd heard that bridges make a difference so I tried a few. Then as I was getting ready to give my banjo to my nephew I put this OG on. Man was I floored! This bridge made my Morgan just bark! I'd had never heard it sound better. If he wasn't such a good kid he might not be getting this one. For sure I'll purchase another for my new custom!

Johnson: Johnson JB-100

Where Purchased: Gift

Year Purchased: 2006
Price Paid: Gift ($US)

Works ok for the VERY basics. It's not bad for just a beginner. Since getting it I've checked out the prices and this one is ok for those who don't want to spend a lot of money. It will give you the basics but not much more. Once you get hooked you'll be buying something else as there isn't much bluegrass sound. NO TONE RING!!!

No, bought at a local guitar store and nobody knew much but you can't blame that on the banjo.

I liked the simple look of this banjo. No flaws and it has side markings.

Appearance Rating: 7

Not enough sound to hold it's own compared to intermediate level banjos. Again no tone ring!!!

Customer Service

Never dealt with them.

Screws holding the resonator back off constantly.

It was a gift so it was well worth it to me. If it was stolen I would be upset only because it was a gift. Only good enough to get the basics down. Might use for kids just starting that way if it got broke it wouldn't cost much to replace it.
