Gold Tone: BG-150F

Submitted by pickincat on 1/21/2014

Where Purchased: Sam Ash

Year Purchased: 2014
Price Paid: 618.00 ($US)

Sound

It has a rolled brass tone-ring. It has ring and more than normal sustain. It really adds to any style.

Sound Rating: 10

Setup

Besides some asshole tuning the jos like guitars, this thing really rang after I tuned it correctly. I think GT delivered it pretty much set up because no one at Sam Ash knows squat about jos.

Setup Rating: 9

Appearance

Its nice chrome and dark wood with some nice aesthetics. It's prettier than most.

Appearance Rating: 8

Reliability

Appears to be very well built. I'd give it a 10 but it takes a year to make sure wood was cured properly. It has a good finish. I definitely can't wait to to use it at a gig.

Reliability Rating: 9

Customer Service

I'm new to Gold Tone and I've had no reason to contsact them.

Customer Service: not rated

Components

I think the rolled brass tone-ring is what makes this model so good. To get this kind of sound and tone ring quality in other brands, they charge anywhere from $1k to $10k for the option.

Components Rating: 10

Overall Comments

Very well balanced.  Best sounding resonator I have and it doesn't weigh as much as a bowling ball.  If you can get one of these for your first banjo, you may never find another the sounds good enough to replace it without some $$$.

Overall Rating: 9
