This is a perfect mute, as many others have posted. This $30 device will be the last mute you ever buy. It's a really high quality item, up there with Eliot capos: worth every penny. Will save your marriage...

Sounds is just that perfect pre-war bluegrass bark that is so sought after these days (including by me). It's a perfect bluegrass banjo. What is cool is that I achieved the sound I wanted with a wooden tone ring! That is the cocobolo ring on the tone spheres.

I did not alter setup. The string height was perfect for me out of the box.

I think it's a beautiful banjo. Came with black buttons on the tuners, very cool and distinctive. Nicely finished.

Just got it but this has a great rep for finish.

I mostly deal with Al Price, who was incredibly patient and answered my many questions over both email and telephone. But Tom Nechville himself was easy to reach and offered many options.

This whole banjo is stellar. Nothing cheap or second rate. Excellent tuners.

Don't think of Nechvilles as just for pickers who do jazz or play like Bela. Don't fear the Nechville: This is a straight ahead bluegrass banjo. I chose this banjo because the sound was great, the price point was right and because it is the lightest banjo made. It's kind of incredible, the sound that comes out of such a light banjo. And what a great company to deal with from start to finish. I am told that a banjo head can be changed out in like 10 minutes, too. I am sold on the Nechville. I have a few other banjos that I also love, but this one has an amazing sound and weighs very little.
