Picks: Geipel Thumbpicks

Submitted by Mike Cruciger on 11/15/2013

Where Purchased: Bart Veerman

Overall Comments

I have used Golden Gate "mother of toilet seat" thumb picks for decades.  A banjo player friend gave me a #6

Geipel thumbpick and I was knocked over.  They do take some adjusting to, but my thumb notes are clearer,

much more precise because the actual pick is so thin.  I have eliminated the occasional thump of the thumbpick

on the head.  There is no scraping noise on the 4th srtring like you normally get with a metal thumbpick.  I don't see how these

picks would ever wear out like the plastic thumbpicks, getting that sharp edge after much use.

The price is so low that to not give these things a try would be a pity.  My wife, who also plays the banjo, could

hear the difference in the sound of the notes between the plastic pick and the Giepel with no coaching from me.

I can't say enough positive things about the Geipel thumbpick.

Tuners: Apollo " D " Tuners

Submitted by Mike Cruciger on 12/18/2011

Where Purchased: dealer and traded

Overall Comments

These tuners really do work with NO hassle.
I have come to the conclusion that D Tuners need their own tuning keys to be most effective. The Apollo Tuners do just that without covering up any of the peg head inlay.
I can't recommend them more highly.
